The Harry L. Davis Executive Education Scholarship for Nonprofit Leaders seeks to provide leaders of nonprofit organizations the opportunity to benefit from an executive education program at Chicago Booth in one of the following areas of study: finance, leadership/organizational behavior, marketing, or strategy. We are targeting, in particular, candidates of organizations that lack the resources traditionally needed to support their directors’ pursuits of executive education. We hope that after learning from The Chicago Approach™, nonprofit executives will be able to use their new experiences to position their organizations more competitively while benefiting society.

Harry L. Davis, the Roger L. and Rachel M. Goetz Distinguished Service Professor of Creative Management, has personally shaped leadership development at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Over the past 50 years, Professor Davis has pioneered innovative programs such as Leadership Exploration and Development (LEAD), which strengthen students’ communication and interpersonal skills, and Management Lab courses, which supplement the traditional MBA curriculum with client-project teams. Professor Davis’s profound effect on Chicago Booth is deeply felt—this scholarship honors this legacy and his commitment to management education.

• The scholarship covers the tuition, books, and instructional materials for one Executive Education program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

• The scholarship recipient must apply it toward an Executive Education program within one year of notification.

• The scholarship is not transferable and has no cash value. 

Who Can Apply

• Applicants must be nonprofit executives who are directly responsible for shaping their organizations’ mission, policies, and major programs.

• The applicant’s organization must be designated as nonprofit.

• Applicants should have at least one year of experience at their current company and at least one year in their current role.

• Applicants who have already been selected for the scholarship may apply in subsequent years, but preference will be given to applicants from previously unselected organizations to increase diversity within the scholarship pool.

Selection Committee

The Selection Committee will determine scholarship recipients based on its assessment of which applicants will best use the knowledge gained from Chicago Booth Executive Education to further the goals of their organization:

• A letter of recommendation from their president or from the chair of the board or other board member if the president is the applicant

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust proudly awards scholarships to local social sector executives who seek to enhance their leadership skills. In an effort to build capacity of local NGO and social enterprise leaders, the Trust provides scholarships to Executive Education programs at the Chicago Booth Hong Kong Campus.

Starting July 1, 2017, there are eight scholarships available every 12 months for aspiring leaders at non-profit organizations.

Chicago Booth Executive Education programs empower executives with a global vision, an international network, and world-class education, thereby enabling Hong Kong鈥檚 social service sector to respond to increasingly complex social problems in the 21st Century.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charity and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the government in combatting illegal gambling. It is Hong Kong鈥檚 largest single tax payer, one of the city鈥檚 major employers, and one of the world鈥檚 top 10 charity donors. Working with the government, non-governmental organizations, and community partners, the Club is committed to improving the quality of life of Hong Kong people through its Charities Trust donations and providing immediate relief to those most in need.

The Trust also proactively seeks out the root causes of social issues and brings multiple and cross-sectoral parties together to tackle social needs, pioneering innovative approaches that transcend disciplines and skills. While the Trust continues to fund a wide range of projects, it is placing special emphasis on four areas of strategic focus: Youth, the Elderly, Sports and Arts, and Culture and Heritage.

Scholarship Eligibility

Requirements

• Be a Hong Kong permanent resident.
• Be employed full-time as an executive in a non-government organization with tax exemption under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance, who is directly responsible for shaping his/her organization鈥檚 mission, policies, and major programs.
• Have two to three years of experience at a non-government organization with tax exemption under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance.
• Be prepared to make the commitment required to complete the program.

Tuition and Fees

This scholarship covers tuition, fees, educational materials, books, and some meals. If applicable, travel and hotel accommodations are not included in the scholarship package and are the responsibility of the participant.
